Cutie Pie William

If I've said it about any other stage, I was lying. 6 months is definitely my favorite age! I LOVE this baby. He is honestly the apple of my eye. I wish I could rewind the clock and start this whole past half year over again, just so I could soak up every square inch of this fluffy little guy.
I could spend my days sitting and watching him discover the mysterious new toy he's been handed. Or watch him as he rolls repeatedly under the couch, then cry because he can't get out from behind the leg. I could tickle his back and make him squeal with laughter all day long. He moved in with Henry months ago and I think both boys are pleased as punch with their new roommate situation. I can hear Henry talking to him in the morning and William cooing as he looks over at him through the crib slates. He has started eating rice cereal and is a wonder when it comes to keeping that mush in his mouth. The cleanest, neatest little eater we've ever had.
I truly wish this first 6 months would last another year. I know soon enough all those big milestones will be reached and he'll be off and running and yelling with the rest of them. It breaks my heart. I love newborns. Despite my vigilant effort to enjoy and memorize every waking second of my babies, I still find myself nostalgic for those first few months of their life. It's a time so precious and special and it goes by in a blink of an eye. I find myself pleading and whispering to William on a daily basis, "Please don't get big. Please don't get big." If I found a genie in a bottle, I know what my one wish would be.

If Babies Could Talk...

...I can only imagine what William would be saying. I bet it would be something like, "Holy crap. Here he goes again. Maybe if I cover my face and pretend to be asleep he'll leave me alone."

Sorry sweet boy. I'm afraid not.

Gabsies Smile

It would be a crime if I didn't have pictures of this smile. I've already looked back at pictures of Gabs when she had all her baby teeth and felt nostalgic. Soon, she'll have all those adult teeth in and I'll be nostalgic for this toothless grin. One day, she'll get braces and this adorable, cross bite smile will be but a faded memory. After many, many, many years (I'm assuming) she'll have perfect teeth with a perfect bite. But I have a feeling, I will always remember my little Gabsies with this perfect smile. It makes me smile just seeing it.

My New Normal

Nothing says, "Spring time in Kansas" like...
a dead turkey on my lawn.
my girls running around with turkey decoys "shootin" one another and then laying on the floor. Dead.
having my freezer full of skinned turkey meat sitting right next to all the deer meat from last fall.
hearing my husband practice his turkey call in the house.
the girls knowing the difference between a tom and a hen.
having my husband push back the beginning of his clinic every chance he gets so he can go "huntin."
hearing my husband talk about hunting non.stop.
asking my husband, when he has a far off look, what he's thinking about. I've come to realize, it's a stupid question. The answer is now obvious. Hint: He is not thinking about me.
doing a batch of laundry every Monday that is strictly camouflage.
Henry no longer backing slowly away when he sees a big, feathery turkey being held up by his feet for all to see.
my girls begging for a "tail feather."
eating turkey pot pie on Sunday evenings.

It's official: My husband is totally country.

Stay tuned for "Fall time in Kansas" in which I'll describe things such as finding bottles of doe urine scent in my car. It'll be super exciting.
